Slavery NEVER ended in the U.S. It was never abolished and it still continues today.
The 13th Amendment to our Constitution abolished slavery "except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted...."
But what is and isn't a crime is up to Congress. And who is and isn't convicted of a crime in our justice system still depends on the color of your skin and your socioeconomic status.
Most of us are old enough to recall when the U.S. used to condemn China for using prison labor. That was before Nixon went to China. Since then we've been silent about it because we use Chinese slave labor and Chinese prison labor in addition to using our own prison labor here. And we have more of our population in prison than they do.
You punish people for crimes, you don't enslave them.
