Possibly from new, young, and less educated voters.
TruthDig had a survey about their site and their readers and here are the results:
-------------------------------------
The survey results revealed that our readers are highly educated, well read and politically active.
Truthdig readers...
→ Love books. More than half either read books or listen to audiobooks every week. Politics, history, biography, literary novel, mysteries and philosophy were among the favorite genres.
→ Prefer documentary, drama, independent, comedy and foreign films.
→ Are well educated: 33 percent are college graduates with bachelor degrees and 42 percent hold advanced degrees.
→ Are liberal/progressive-minded, with 72 percent classifying themselves as such.
→ Are politically active -- and vote: 85 percent said they planned to vote in the 2008 election, and 90 percent voted in the 2004 presidential election. Approximately two-thirds have donated money to a non-profit, written online letters to representatives, or forwarded e-mails informing friends and family about a political issue or candidate.
→ Care about the environment: 90 percent are willing to pay more for a product or service that is environmentally friendly, and nearly half say they want to see more Truthdig coverage of the environment and global warming.
-------------------
So among politically aware, involved, educated, activists, it looks to me like fewer people voted. A five percent drop isn't much, but it is a good sign.
Voters are going to be greatly disappointed in the Obama administration, so we'll have a good chance for an election boycott in 2012. Accountability is the buzzword these days and we're not going to see any in the next four years. From the looks of Obama's staff appointments, he isn't planning to confront the MIC or the financial sector, and he may even start a new war to kill off all those naive youngsters who voted for him.
